A smart lock can have a free app and still be the wrong purchase for a door. Before comparing remote access or fingerprint features, check whether the exact deadbolt and supplied hardware fit the opening and the household's access routine. This is especially important when a marketplace offers both a lock-only package and several handleset variants.
The examples here are the Veise RZ06 and VE027. This guide is an installation-planning checklist, not an installed review, security certification or procedure for altering a door.
Record the existing door's dimensions
Gather the door thickness, backset, bore dimensions and existing lock arrangement. Compare them with the current instructions for the exact model. Keep the numbers with the purchase notes rather than relying on the general description “standard door.”
The RZ06 page and VE027 page provide their respective product and installation information. Do not transfer every dimension or accessory from one model to the other. A handleset can introduce an additional mounting question beyond the deadbolt itself.
If an installer is assessing the door, supply the exact model and package, not merely a photograph of a similar lock. A mismatch is easier to resolve before purchase than after removing functioning hardware.
Check alignment as well as size
Inspect whether the existing door closes and latches normally, and whether the bolt can operate without force. A motorized lock should not be used as the assumed solution to a poorly aligned door or difficult strike arrangement.
Doors can move or bind for reasons that a lock specification does not address. Have any underlying issue assessed where necessary. The manufacturer's quick-installation estimate should not be treated as a promise for a door requiring correction or additional work.
Also check the interior clearances and the way nearby hardware moves. A lock may fit the bore while placing its inside assembly inconveniently near another fitting. The complete mechanical arrangement is part of suitability.
Choose the access task separately
Once fit is established, decide which app task matters. The RZ06 uses DDLock with a Bluetooth route and requires an added gateway for its documented remote functions. The VE027 uses KK Home and built-in Wi-Fi for its documented remote arrangement.
These differences change the equipment and network plan, not the need for compatible door hardware. An app advertised as free does not remove the gateway from a Bluetooth configuration or establish a suitable network signal at an integrated Wi-Fi lock.
Avoid buying remote access merely because it appears in the feature list. If local credentials and nearby management cover the household routine, compare that complete configuration. If access must be managed from away, verify the network path as an explicit requirement.
Plan physical recovery and maintenance
Decide how the household will enter when a phone is unavailable, and keep the manufacturer's supported backup method accessible. Think about battery replacement and who will respond to a low-power indication. Do not wait until the lock is the only available entry route to settle that routine.
The VE027 page lists eight AA batteries and notes that they are not supplied. That requirement belongs in its setup cost. Check the RZ06's own specification rather than borrowing a battery count from another model.
For a rented or shared property, confirm that the proposed replacement and access arrangements fit the applicable property requirements. Do not treat a no-subscription app as permission to replace hardware.
Keep one complete purchase record
Write down the model, finish, handleset configuration, fit measurements, access methods, power needs and any gateway. Compare prices only after these items describe equivalent setups.
The right smart deadbolt fits the door and preserves a practical access routine. Its connected features can then add convenience without creating a mismatch that the app cannot solve.
