A smart device can outlast the phone, app or service arrangement used to configure it. Before choosing a camera, purifier or wearable, record the manufacturer's actual software-support commitment alongside the hardware specification. A statement about free core functions does not answer how long updates or connected services will remain available.
This is a documentation checklist, not a security audit or a prediction of product failure. It helps you identify a published commitment and preserve its scope. Missing evidence should remain an unresolved purchase question, rather than becoming an invented end date.
Establish the exact hardware identity
Start with the model code and, where relevant, the hardware version and market. A family name can contain smart and non-smart versions or variants with different support pages. A retailer title alone may not establish every detail needed for a software policy lookup.
Dreo's accessory listing distinguishes DR-HAP008 and DR-HAP008S within the 338 family. The extra character matters when reading a model-specific commitment. Save the exact code from the product and selected offer rather than assuming one policy applies to every similar case.
For cameras, check whether downloads and instructions distinguish hardware revisions. For scales or watches, confirm the exact base or premium version before borrowing connectivity requirements. Our cached candidates are useful selection evidence, but they are not an official certification of every retail package.
Record the commitment exactly as published
Dreo's product security policy lists DR-HAP008S with a guaranteed security-update support period from March 16, 2026 to March 16, 2029. Record both dates and the model named in the policy. The published interval is a concrete example, not a general three-year rule for all smart devices.
Do not calculate a fresh full support period from the day you buy unless the policy explicitly does that. A calendar end date and a purchase-relative duration answer different questions. Consider the remaining published window at the time of your decision.
Also record when you checked the policy and its source. Terms and support statements can change, so an old saved note should not silently become evidence of a current promise. This article does not predict what Dreo will do after the listed period.
Separate updates from other commitments
An update window is not the same as a hardware warranty. It also does not establish a lifetime cloud-service promise, indefinite compatibility with every future operating system or availability of every optional feature. Review those subjects separately when they matter to your intended use.
Current compatibility is another snapshot. The Wyze BodyScan page specifies supported phone versions for its documented setup. That requirement helps with today's selection; it does not promise that all later phone versions will work forever.
Tapo's general camera FAQ describes account and network conditions for particular functions. Such service prerequisites belong in the same buying record, without being mistaken for a defined software-support end date.
Match the uncertainty to the job you need
Ask which operations depend on the app or a remote service. A physical control, local recording route or exported file may answer one need, while off-site management answers another. We have not established that all local functions survive every future service change.
If the manufacturer does not publish a relevant commitment in the sources you have checked, mark it unverified and seek an exact current answer. Do not label the product unsupported merely because one page omits a date. Equally, avoid replacing the missing evidence with an assumption that a familiar brand guarantees indefinite service.
Finish your shortlist with model identity, stated update scope, dates, phone compatibility and required service dependencies. Then judge whether the documented arrangement fits how long and how you intend to use the device. This keeps a low-subscription purchase decision honest without promising lifetime software or speculating about future abandonment.

Based on the manufacturer documentation linked below. Features, app requirements and optional services can change. Check the exact model and package before purchase.
