The cost of motion-controlled lighting is the cost of a complete route from movement to a useful light change. A sensor's headline price cannot answer that question on its own. This guide provides a worksheet method, not current prices, a tested system or a forecast of electricity savings.

Define the automation first

Write the result you want in one sentence. Then list the movement sensor, required hub, platform running the rule and controllable lighting output. Each part needs a specific model or an explicit unresolved entry.

The P1 is a hub-dependent Zigbee sensor. Our supply candidate B0F998QW67 is a kit whose included hub has not been identified. That prevents a final bill of materials. P1 US product information

Our cost judgment is to compare complete supported designs. A lower-priced kit is not a better deal if you still need an unlisted hub replacement or a new lighting output. Conversely, an existing suitable hub can reduce the additions needed for the first room.

Make four cost columns

Use separate columns for equipment already owned, new required purchases, periodic consumables and optional additions. Put the existing hub in the first column only after confirming compatibility. Put a new sensor or required light control in the second. Put eventual batteries in the third. Put a convenience button in the fourth if the motion rule can operate without it.

The Mini Switch T1, candidate B0CTQLH6L6, has a documented battery and hub requirement. It should be counted as a separate scene input rather than silently included in the P1 kit. T1 specifications

Do not count the same shared hub twice when planning another compatible room. Also do not divide its cost across hypothetical future sensors you have no reason to buy. A useful comparison shows the actual first-room additions and a separate, clearly hypothetical expansion scenario.

Keep the output-device choice honest

A suitable plug, light or wall control may serve as the output, but the selected route needs compatibility evidence. The Linkind indoor plug, candidate B0C36Z4L6S, is a supply option to research, not a validated P1 combination.

If a cross-platform design requires a separate controller, add it to the bill. If the design requires installation work, obtain a quote for the precise project rather than inserting a generic labor figure. A simpler documented output may offer better value than an assumed integration whose configuration becomes another task.

Separate required fees from optional services

Aqara's named M2 and M1S Gen 2 pages explicitly describe subscription-free sensor security systems. That is useful evidence for those systems; it does not automatically cover an unnamed kit or every outside service. Hub M2, Hub M1S Gen 2

For the lighting rule, record whether the exact required function needs an ongoing plan. Leave the entry unresolved when the evidence is missing. List optional external services separately and exclude them from a minimum system only if the intended routine truly works without them. Missing fee information is not a zero-cost figure.

Use a transparent ownership formula

For your chosen period, estimate ownership cost as new required hardware plus necessary installation, consumables, operating electricity and any required service fees. Record optional additions separately. Use actual quotes and confirmed policies when filling the worksheet; this article supplies no fabricated monetary values.

Battery life should not be converted into a guaranteed replacement schedule from a headline claim. Configuration and use matter, and the P1's exact battery reference still needs hardware verification. Likewise, do not subtract assumed energy savings from the total. No before-and-after consumption measurements exist here.

Decide on value before expanding

Our recommendation is to evaluate one supported, useful room before buying several sensors. Decide whether the routine improves a daily task and whether the household can maintain it. If the principal benefit is convenience, judge it as convenience rather than forcing an unmeasured payback calculation.

The best cost comparison is between complete verified designs serving the same action. Until the kit hub and destination route are known, the correct result is a partially filled worksheet. That is more informative than a confident total built from missing hardware, invented prices and an assumed free service.
