Buying a robot for low furniture: measure the whole passage

Low-profile and retractable-sensor robots can make furniture clearance an important buying feature. The relevant measurement, however, is the complete route beneath your furniture, not just the height at its front edge. Saros 10R, Qrevo CurvX and Dreame Aqua10 Ultra Roller use different navigation designs worth researching. This guide does not report a hands-on clearance or navigation test.

Measure more than the entrance

Check the lowest point under the furniture from the intended entrance through the cleaning area to the exit. Crossbars, uneven flooring, hanging upholstery and movable storage can reduce clearance deeper inside. Leave room for turning and reaching the robot if it stops.

Measure the available width as well as height. A robot can fit beneath a bed yet be unable to pass between its legs or leave around a center support. Note any lip, rug edge or threshold at the entry because the robot's position can change while crossing it.

Use the dimensions for the exact delivered robot and its operating configuration. We exclude an apparently mistyped dimension string on the current Saros 10R page. Confirm a reliable model-specific measurement before buying for a tight opening, rather than converting that text into a confident recommendation.

Understand the navigation design

The Saros 10R US page describes StarSight navigation with 3D sensing, an RGB camera and lateral obstacle sensing. It does not rely on the same raised retractable LDS arrangement advertised for CurvX. That is a physical architecture distinction, not evidence that one system always maps better under furniture.

The CurvX US page advertises a retractable LDS assembly. The Aqua10 Ultra Roller manual documents its retractable navigation assembly and operating requirements. A retracted state and a raised state have different space requirements; do not compare only the smallest published chassis figure.

Check whether the supplied manual explains the intended under-furniture mode and any restrictions. Do not assume that a feature shown on another model or in a future update is already available on the unit you order.

Prepare the hidden cleaning area

Remove cables, small objects and valuable items before an initial supervised run. Under a sofa, objects can be difficult for a person to see and difficult for a robot to avoid. Camera or obstacle-recognition marketing is not a guarantee that every concealed hazard will be recognized.

Inspect the route for moving fabric and mechanisms such as recliner parts. A space that is clear while the furniture is raised may change during use. Do not allow cleaning where a moving mechanism could trap the robot or its attachments.

Set exclusions for passages that are unsuitable and check the outcome after changing furniture. We have no tested localization accuracy for these models and cannot promise that a saved map eliminates all contact risk.

Include the dock in the same fit check

An under-furniture robot still returns to a station. Saros 10R and CurvX document automated dust and mop servicing; Aqua10 Ultra Roller adds a roller-based wet-cleaning maintenance routine. All require accessible station compartments, water management and cleaning of supported parts.

Do not hide a wet station in a low cabinet without verifying its own clearance and service instructions. The robot's minimum height is unrelated to the space needed to lift water tanks or clean a dock tray. A promising sofa fit is not a complete equipment-fit assessment.

Software evidence and purchase checks

Official manuals present their core app controls and cleaning settings as normal equipment operations without paid-plan activation. We infer those documented functions are included, rather than promising every future AI or camera service is free. Pairing and remote control have network requirements, and physical buttons do not establish full offline equivalence.

Confirm exact US model dimensions, matching station and package contents before ordering. Our catalog titles align with the researched model names, but they do not prove every supplied accessory. Buy for a verified passage and maintainable station; treat advertised low-profile navigation as a reason to investigate fit, not a demonstrated result in your rooms.
