The M5 versus M5+ decision is chiefly a dock-configuration decision. The official US family page groups the robot under M5 and identifies the plus package with RockDock Plus automatic dust collection. Treat them as one family with different station work, rather than counting two unrelated robot designs. This research compares documented requirements and does not measure dust pickup or emptying performance.
Identify the chore the station removes
The US Q7 series page separates the base charging dock from RockDock Plus. Base M5 requires the owner to empty the robot's bin. M5+ can transfer dust into a disposable station bag. That can be valuable if bending to the robot is inconvenient or the bin requires frequent attention.
The plus station still needs bag replacement and clear collection paths. Its long advertised interval between bag changes depends on the home and cleaning frequency. It should not be treated as a fixed service calendar or a claim that the brushes and filters need no attention during that period.
Before choosing M5+, ask whether dust-bin handling is actually the repeated problem. If the robot runs occasionally in a small space and manual emptying is easy, additional station hardware may solve little.
The wet-cleaning work remains
Neither configuration is documented here as a station that washes, dries or refills mops. Both require water management and removable-cloth care. Automatic dust emptying does not turn the mop system into a self-service wet station.
Prepare the cloth and water supply according to the model's instructions, clean the cloth afterward and avoid leaving wet dirty fabric installed unnecessarily. Plan vacuum-only runs and floor exclusions for areas where a cloth should not travel. Do not assume lifting or automatic detachment from features advertised on different Roborock models.
For a household whose biggest chore is frequent mop care, investigate a model with documented washing and drying instead. Paying for dust collection cannot remove an unrelated wet-maintenance task.
Compare the complete physical package
The base charger and plus station have different footprints and servicing needs. Check the robot's approach route as well as space for the owner to reach compartments. A station placed behind furniture can interfere with both docking and bag replacement.
Our PB catalog has one base M5 candidate and two M5+ candidates. Their titles align with the official family names, but manufacturer-level bundle and color mapping remains unresolved. Verify the included dock, cord, bag, mop hardware and initial supplies in the exact listing before ordering.
Core software is not the reason to buy the plus dock
The family page documents app control, saved multi-floor maps and adjustable mop flow. The M5+ FCC manual explains pairing, schedules and physical cleaning controls without a paid-plan activation step. We infer the documented core functions are included with the equipment; this does not guarantee all future services are free.
The plus manual specifies 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. A base M5 US manual was not independently located to verify every radio and power detail. The US family page requires the app and acceptance of its terms for intended operation. No full Internet-independent map or schedule claim follows from the robot's buttons.
A clear decision rule
Choose base M5 when direct bin care is acceptable and simple station equipment meets your needs. Choose M5+ when fewer direct dust-bin interventions justify station space, bags and collection-path maintenance. Keep the manual mop routine in both budgets.
For either package, brush and filter condition, route preparation and supported supplies remain important. Optional extended warranty is separate from the app-function evidence. Compare verified package contents and current purchase terms, not an assumed price difference or an untested claim that the plus robot cleans better.
