Eufy C31 Continuous Recording: A Pre-Purchase Wiring Checklist

The C31's documented continuous-recording option is a reason to inspect the existing doorbell installation before buying. It is not simply a setting guaranteed by owning the battery-powered product. Eufy ties the feature to a particular power arrangement, so the purchase decision should include the circuit, chime and local storage together.

This guide helps you prepare the questions for installation. It is not a procedure for modifying energized wiring, and we have not installed the doorbell ourselves.

Define the recording requirement first

Write down why uninterrupted footage is useful. You may want to inspect activity that did not trigger an event, follow a sequence around an arrival, or keep a broader front-door timeline. That is different from receiving an alert when someone approaches.

If reviewing detected events already answers your question, a battery arrangement might meet the need with less installation work. If continuous video is the reason for choosing this model, do not buy until the documented prerequisites have been checked. A return window is more useful for verifying a complete configuration than for discovering that a key requirement was never possible.

Identify the actual transformer and chime

The official C31 page specifies 16–24 V, 30 VA power for its continuous-recording arrangement and requires bypassing the existing mechanical chime. Record the transformer rating and the existing chime type for the installer rather than assuming that any old doorbell wiring qualifies.

An unreadable label or unknown circuit should remain an installation question. A previous doorbell working on the circuit does not prove compatibility with this configuration. Where the rating or wiring needs assessment, have a qualified person compare it with the current model instructions.

Also decide how an arrival will be heard indoors after that arrangement is installed. A phone notification and an audible indoor chime are different household workflows. Confirm the specific compatible chime or other sounder that your selected package provides; do not infer it from a photograph of a larger bundle.

Buy storage for the intended recording mode

The C31 supports a microSD card up to the documented 128 GB capacity. The card is a separate item in the normal standalone equipment plan unless the precise offer lists it as included. Continuous video makes storage and replacement planning more important than an occasional-event workload.

Choose a card whose specification fits the manufacturer's requirements, then consider how you will preserve useful footage. The largest supported card is still a rolling recording medium. It does not supply indefinite retention or guarantee that every incident will remain available when you eventually check it.

An optional HomeBase path is a separate design. Check current compatibility for the exact hub and intended features. Do not assume the addition changes the power prerequisites or that every calling and recording function behaves identically through every base.

Check the entrance as a complete installation

The camera needs a useful view, secure mounting and a workable network connection at the door. Survey the mounting position and any obstruction in the intended scene. A recording mode cannot recover activity outside the camera's view.

Include cable condition, bracket needs, indoor notification arrangements and future service access in the plan. If a battery or card needs attention, someone must be able to reach the installed unit appropriately. Easy app access does not replace physical maintenance access.

A commissioning checklist to keep

After installation, confirm the selected recording mode and save a sample clip through the normal app workflow. Check an actual arrival with the household notification arrangement. These are tasks for validating your own setup, not results we claim to have measured.

Keep a record of the exact doorbell, power rating, chime arrangement, storage and optional hub. If a future problem occurs, that record is more useful than the general label “wired camera.”

The purchase is well supported when the continuous-history requirement is clear, the specified installation is feasible and the complete equipment list fits your budget. If any of those conditions is unresolved, settle it before treating the C31's recording option as an advantage.
